Zama is told in a singular voice, that of Don Diego de Zama, a member of the late 18th Century Spanish colonial bureaucracy languishing on the fringes of the empire in Asunción. He has left his wife and children behind in Santiago. In the meantime, he waits for a letter from his wife Marta; for a subsequent transfer to Buenos Aires; for those around him to recognize his brilliance and reward him accordingly.
Zama is a 1956 novel by Argentine writer Antonio di Benedetto.
